Dynamical transition in sliding charge-density waves with quenched disorder.

We have studied numerically the dynamics of sliding charge-density waves ~CDW’s! in the presence of impurities in d51,2. The model considered exhibits a first-order dynamical transition at a critical driving force Fc between ‘‘rough’’ ~disorder dominated! (F,Fc) and ‘‘flat’’ (F.Fc) sliding phases where disorder is washed out by the external drive. The effective model for the sliding CDW’s in th...

Chiral charge-density waves.

We discovered the chirality of charge-density waves (CDW) in 1T-TiSe₂ by using STM and time-domain optical polarimetry. We found that the CDW intensity becomes Ia₁∶Ia₂∶Ia₃ = 1∶0.7 ± 0.1∶0.5 ± 0.1, where Ia(i) (i=1,2,3) is the amplitude of the tunneling current contributed by the CDWs. There were two states, in which the three intensity peaks of the CDW decrease clockwise and anticlockwise. The ...

Pinning and Sliding of Driven Elastic Systems: from Domain Walls to Charge Density Waves

The review is devoted to the theory of collective and local pinning effects in various disordered non-linear driven systems. Common feature of both approaches is the emergence of metastability. Although the emphasis is put on charge and spin density waves and magnetic domain walls, the theory has also applications to flux lines and lattices thereof, dislocation lines, adsorbed mono-layers and r...

Sliding charge-density wave in manganites.

Stripe and chequerboard phases appear in many metal oxide compounds, and are thought to be linked to exotic behaviour such as high-temperature superconductivity and colossal magnetoresistance. It is therefore extremely important to understand the fundamental nature of such phases. The so-called stripe phase of the manganites has long been interpreted as the localization of charge at atomic site...

Nonlinear conduction of sliding electronic crys - tals : Charge and Spin Density Waves

A model of local metastable states (MSs) due to the pinning induces plastic deformations allows to describe the nonlinear I − V curves in sliding density waves (DW). With increasing DW velocity v, the MSs of decreasing lifetimes τ ∼ 1/v are accessed. The characteristic second threshold field is reached when the shortest life time configurations are accessed by the fast moving DW. Thus the DW wo...
